Last evening
Last night I took a detour and decided to paint something loosely in acrylic. I painted exclusively in acrylic for years in my commercial illustration days, eventually adding colored pencil and airbrush for blending... I never could get the blending I desired with just brushes and acrylic. This was an experiment with Atelier Brand acrylics. It was an enjoyable experience, and I was able to get a whole figure painting done in about 2 hours.

When i paint in acrylics I hold a piece of cotton wadded up in my left hand and lightly brush any edges that i want soft or that I intend to 'blend'. It does not achieve the same result, but if you do the same thing repeatedly with two different colours, you can achieve a near-comparable result. The floral still-lifes on my site were all done in this manner.

Great paintings!!! :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice painting. I have wondered how they work but haven't tried acrylics with the interactive formulation as yet. I do an occasional acrylic but mostly paint in oils.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to get input on these products. Thanks.

So glad to have found your blog, David. Cannot remember how I found your work (through some artist's blog or other), but your pieces are truly exquisite. I also enjoy your sense of humor (and that son of your's! ooh la la!). Couldn't figure out how to comment on WordPress blogs, but am glad there is a place to come and view your work in blogspot land.
